Up to 80-85 percent of marine litter in the EU consists of plastic. That is the background to the introduction of producer responsibility for fishing gear. A collaborative project, which is now in its final report, between HaV and a number of actors provides the foundation.
In the project, the participants have tried and developed new forms – for example in-depth interviews – for cooperation and knowledge transfer between authorities, producers and other actors in order to create better and more efficient working methods and rules of the game. Within the framework of the project, the collection and recycling of used fishing gear from both professional and sport fishing has also been tested.
