Now the Swedish Maritime Administration's icebreakers are getting ready for the coming winter. The icebreaker Ale is operationally ready for the season and will soon be put on standby and can then begin assisting merchant shipping with a few hours' notice.
The first ice in the northern parts of the country came relatively late this year, only a couple of weeks ago. Autumn has been very warm and it is warmer than usual in the water around Sweden's coast.
