Fewer people in distress at sea in 2022

In the previous notice, we reported on the Swedish Transport Agency's preliminary statistics on deaths at sea in 2022. Now there are also statistics from the Swedish Maritime Administration on the number of calls for sea rescue.

The Swedish Maritime Administration handled 964 maritime rescue cases in 2022, which is a large decrease compared to the year before. Some of the most common causes of alarms were groundings and engine failures, and most alarms came from recreational boats. The Maritime Administration also handled 590 air rescue cases.
