Prohibit discharge of washing water

A total ban on discharges of washing water into Sweden's inland waters. The Swedish Transport Agency and the Swedish Maritime Administration (HaV) propose this jointly in a report on a supplementary assignment from the government.

A scrubber washes exhaust fumes from ships and reduces sulfur emissions to the air. At the same time, the water, which contains toxic and eutrophication substances, is released into the sea without any major treatment. Therefore, the two authorities have already proposed that emission control should be tightened.

These days, the Swedish Transport Agency and HaV jointly report on how they think the tightening should go.
