The policy to protect the Baltic Sea does not work

Agricultural emissions into the sea continue, despite an agreement between the countries around the Baltic Sea. Most of the sea is still affected by eutrophication and bottom death.

- What is most surprising is how many countries have still not implemented basic measures to reduce eutrophication, such as rules on handling and spreading manure, says Mark Brady, one of the researchers behind the study. This indicates that the Helsinki Commission, which is to protect the Baltic Sea from pollution, lacks the necessary institutional muscles to save the Baltic Sea.
